Kids Today Need Bozo
In “Bye, Bozo: You Were Just So 20th Century” (April 10), Steve Johnson completely ignored the fact that there is a greater need now for the innocence and optimism of Bozo the Clown than even back in the “Summer of Love” days of the 1960s, when I was first charmed by this lovable character on local L.A. television Channel 13 (KCOP).
With all the cynicism and violence predominant in today’s juvenile pop culture, one can only hope that Bozo’s mentor, producer Larry Harmon (who wasn’t even mentioned in Johnson’s article but who has owned the character for nearly 50 years), will put Bozo the Clown back on TV very soon for children to enjoy.
As long as there is a need for laughter in the world, Bozo, “The World’s Most Famous Clown,” will never be obsolete in any century.
