Gosling Pitches Stanford Past USC

Top-ranked Stanford avoided a sweep and held on to first place in the Pacific 10 Conference Sunday with a 9-5 baseball victory over No. 8 USC at Dedeaux Field.
Mike Gosling (4-0) pitched a six-hitter and struck out eight for Stanford (32-10, 11-4), which lost the first two games of the series. Stanford had won 17 consecutive series and 10 Pac-10 series in a row before USC (29-14, 10-5) ended the streaks.
USC led, 5-2, after three innings, but had only one baserunner the rest of the way.
