Something to Mew About

Firefighters rescued a kitten Friday morning that had been mewing for days after it got stuck in the ceiling of an office building in Chatsworth.
Thinking the scratching noises were those of a rat, employees at El Centro de Amistad on Sherman Way called their landlord before alerting authorities once the crying started.
Seven firefighters showed up in three vehicles.
“I think they thought it was a lion,” said Ricardo Fernandez, case manager at the Chatsworth nonprofit organization.
Authorities cut two small holes into a wall and ceiling after a heat-detector located the abandoned black kitten with white socks. Because of construction on the building’s second floor, the mother may have slipped the kitten between the rafters for safety, authorities said.
Fireman Dwayne Kastor later gave the kitten, which is still too young to walk, to his girlfriend.
