In another Century League game:
El Modena 3, Santa Ana Valley 2--Second baseman Aaron Wise hit two doubles and scored twice for El Modena (10-11, 6-4). Santa Ana Valley is 4-18 (0-11).
In the Empire League:
Cypress 12, No. 4 El Dorado 8--Visiting Cypress took the lead in the fifth inning with home runs by shortstop Scott Moore, who also had a double and three RBIs, and center fielder Jason Filarey, who had two RBIs. It was the first time in four meetings this season that Cypress (15-7, 6-5) has beaten first-place El Dorado (17-5, 8-3).
In the Freeway League:
No. 5 Sonora 5, Buena Park 1--Brett Smith had 10 strikeouts and two hits and John Muramoto had three hits and an RBI for Sonora (19-2-1, 11-0), which clinched at least a share of the Freeway League title. Buena Park is 7-13, 5-6.
Sunny Hills 9, Fullerton 7--Catcher Jeff Jones’ two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth was the game-winner. Shaun Cahill went the distance, scattering 12 hits with five strikeouts for Sunny Hills (10-11-1, 4-7). Fullerton is 9-11, 6-5.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago 1, Rancho Alamitos 0 (8)--Second baseman Danny Florido’s single in the bottom of the eighth drove in Brian Pilkington with the winning run for Santiago (10-8, 6-4).
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 8, Orange Lutheran 7--Anthony Villa’s two-run home run in the sixth was the difference for Whittier Christian (9-10, 4-2). Second baseman Scott Wooldridge had three hits with an RBI and one run for Orange Lutheran (10-8-1, 3-2-1), which rallied for three runs in the seventh.
In the Pacific Coast League:
No. 9 Corona del Mar 6, Estancia 4--Center fielder Billy Eagle had three hits including a two-run home run in the second inning for Corona del Mar (15-6, 10-1). Right fielder Danny Whitaker had two hits and one RBI. Estancia is 6-14, 3-8.
In the Sunset League:
No. 10 Edison 3, Marina 2--Jarod Shwam’s two-out, bases-loaded single in the seventh drove in the tying and winning runs for Edison (15-6-1, 8-3). David Huff (5-1) pitched a six-hitter and struck out eight.
Fountain Valley 3, Los Alamitos 0--Andrew Green (3-2) pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven for the Barons (14-6, 6-5). Blake Davis hit a two-run double in the sixth inning.
In a nonleague game:
No. 3 La Quinta 6, Pacifica 1--Ian Kennedy pitched a four-hitter, struck out nine and walked two for La Quinta (21-2, 9-1). Kennedy improved his record to 8-1. Ian Stewart led the Aztec offense with two hits, two runs and an RBI.
