California regulators fined wireless carrier Sprint PCS $200,000 on Thursday as punishment for misleading the state about its supply of phone numbers in the 310 area code, a region that has been hit hard by numbering problems.
Last year, Sprint PCS sued state regulators to get more phone numbers in the Beverly Hills area.
The company lost the case, but in the process, the California Public Utilities Commission found that Sprint PCS had 30,000 extra numbers to serve Beverly Hills and surrounding areas that were not listed on the company’s state-mandated numbering report.
