Stewart, 46, comes from casual dining chain Applebee’s International, where she was responsible for domestic operations. Before her position at Applebee’s, Stewart was national vice president in charge of franchise and license operations at Taco Bell Corp.
Glendale-based IHOP also announced a succession plan under which Stewart will be appointed as chief executive by mid-2002. Richard K. Herzer, now chairman and CEO, will remain chairman.
IHOP shares closed up 71 cents to $28.67 on the New York Stock Exchange.
