2. Long Beach Poly (3-0) (SS--Moore)--Jackrabbits could win section titles in football and basketball.
3. Mater Dei (3-0) (SS--Serra)--A word for whoever put Monarchs on Costa Mesa’s schedule: Why?
4. Fairfax (7-1) (CS--Western)--Evan Burns’ late three-point attempt would have beaten Westchester.
5. Fremont (4-0) (CS--Coliseum)--Geoffrey Clayton takes MVP honors at Fremont tournament after leading Pathfinders to title.
6. Redondo Union (3-1) (SS--Bay)--Here’s hoping the Seahawks logged some time at the beach during off week.
7. Villa Park (2-0) (SS--Century)--Spartans’ first big test isn’t until Jan. 4 against Mater Dei.
8. Glendora (5-0) (SS--Baseline)--Spencer Foster drops 32 points on Downey Calvary Chapel.
9. Santa Margarita (5-0) (SS--Serra)--Eagles would be top 25 also-rans if rankings were based on strength of early schedule.
10. Eisenhower (5-0) (SS--Citrus Belt)--Sean Marshall and Johnny Dukes go for 16 points each in win over Temescal Canyon.
11. King (5-0) (SS--Sunkist)--Wolves torpedo Sailors to win Newport Harbor tournament.
12. Capistrano Valley (4-1) (SS--South Coast)--Cougars waste momentum from Fresno Clovis West tournament by not scheduling anyone in Week 2.
13. Dorsey (4-1) (CS--Coliseum)--Dons beat one power (Inglewood) and lose to another (Fremont).
14. Inglewood (3-1) (SS--Bay)--Sentinels ordered to guard against another letdown.
15. Corona Centennial (1-0) (SS--Mountain View)--One win down and the rest of the season to go.
16. Muir (6-0) (SS--Pacific)--Mustangs work double overtime to beat Mayfair by a point.
17. Thousand Oaks (1-0) (SS--Marmonte)--C.J. Handlos proves to be a handful for Dos Pueblos.
18. Compton Centennial (3-0) (SS--Bay)--Sterling Byrd and Gabriel Pruitt score 22 points apiece against Carmichael Jesuit.
19. Loyola (7-0) (SS--Mission)--Cubs beat El Segundo at their game on their floor in their tournament.
20. Mission Viejo (5-0) (SS--South Coast)--Diabolic game plans perfect so far.
21. Harvard-Westlake (8-0) (SS--Mission)--Administration’s new focus: getting basketball players into ACC rather than students into Ivy League.
22. El Dorado (5-0) (SS--Empire)--Golden Hawks might upgrade to platinum if they keep winning.
23. El Segundo (7-1) (SS--Ocean)--Eagles in the giving mood more than two weeks too soon against Loyola.
