Man With Explosive on Shoes Detained at Airport

A man trying to board a flight was detained briefly at San Antonio International Airport when residue of an explosive was detected on his shoes, officials said.
The man, a foreigner whose name and nationality were not released, was questioned for two hours, then allowed to leave when security workers determined that only a trace of explosive was present and he had not put it there.
“There was no wiring and not enough explosive residue to cause any alarm,” airport spokeswoman Laura Uselding said, adding that the explosive was detected in a random chemical test.
Security officials believe the man, described as a “world traveler,” got the explosive on his shoes inadvertently during a recent visit to Eastern Europe.
