A law officer who was the son of the local police chief was shot and killed during a drug raid in Prentiss, and a suspect was in custody, authorities said.
Cory Maye, 21, will be charged with capital murder in the death of Officer Ron Jones, Dist. Atty. Buddy McDonald said.
Jones was shot Wednesday night as he entered the back door of Maye’s home, where he and other officers were trying to serve search warrants, authorities said.
Jones was wearing a bulletproof vest, but he was struck just below it, in the abdomen, Mayor Charley Dumas said.
Jones, 29, was the son of Prentiss Police Chief Ronald Jones. The department has five officers.
