In the wake of higher natural gas prices nationwide, the Southern California Gas Co. is increasing its financial assistance programs for low-income customers.
“We recognize that high gas prices are having an impact on our customers and we want to help,” said Denise King, a spokeswoman for the company, the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility with about 18 million customers.
The programs allow low-income customers to receive a 15% discount on their monthly gas bills or a one-time credit of as much as $150 on their winter bills as well as free weatherization services that include attic insulation, door and window caulking and water heater blankets.
Some seniors or permanently disabled customers may also be eligible.
To determine if a customer’s income qualifies for the program, call (800) 772-5050.
