Principals Vote Pacifica Into Playoffs

Garden Grove League principals voted Friday to allow the Pacifica boys’ basketball team to enter the Southern Section playoffs as the league’s No. 1 entrant despite finishing the regular season tied for last place, Mariner Coach David Friedman said.
Pacifica, which is 5-21, forfeited 10 victories earlier in the week for using an ineligible player. The Mariners’ final league record of 3-9 tied them with La Quinta for last place.
Though Pacifica was granted a reprieve, it still must forfeit the victories. Los Amigos (17-10, 10-2), which won the league, will enter the playoffs as the league’s No. 2 entrant.
“I’m just happy we get to play,” Friedman said. “If [the principals] had voted us in as the fourth-place team, fine. We’re just ready to play. I’m very appreciative of them letting us in--they didn’t have to do that.”
