Star Tours

Canopus, the second-brightest star in the nighttime sky, barely rises as seen from the latitude of Los Angeles. You might see it a scant 3 degrees above the southern horizon at 8:30 p.m., below Sirius in Canis Major and below Orion, if the air is exceptionally clear and if you observe from a hill overlooking the ocean to the south. Canopus, a giant star about 300 light-years from Earth, is in the constellation Carina.
