Newport Harbor’s Peter Belden, The Times’ Orange County boys’ water polo player of the year, signed a letter of intent to play at UCLA, Sailor Coach Brian Kreutzkamp said.
Belden was the Southern Section Division I player of the year and a four-year varsity letterman who led the Sailors to a 26-5 record and the Division I title last season.
“I have been interested in UCLA’s overall program for a long time,” Belden said. “The chance to play for the Bruins is a great opportunity for me and I look forward to playing with guys from other programs I have competed against all these years.”
Belden also was a first-team All-American. He was first-team All-Southern Section as a junior and senior and was a second-team selection as a sophomore.
Belden finished last season with 96 goals, 75 assists, 80 steals and 105 sprints won.
