From Times Wire Reports
The U.S. Army said it was barring civilians from its aircraft, tanks and other vehicles pending the outcome of a Pentagon review prompted by a fatal submarine accident off Hawaii.
An Army spokesman said the ban applied to the active duty force, National Guard and Army Reserve. The move was prompted by the accident Feb. 9 in which the Greeneville struck and sank a Japanese fishing vessel. Sixteen civilians were aboard the sub and two were at the controls at the time of the accident, in which nine Japanese are presumed to have died.
