“Quirky Yule Trees Don’t Make the Cut” (Dec. 20) omitted a special feature of the unclosed Douglas fir Christmas tree: The branches of the “Charlie Brown,” as some term these firs, were available for clipping on the Christmas candle holders in locations where the candle flames would be clear of ornaments and other branches. Oh, you don’t remember candle holders? They were also clipped so flames wouldn’t be near the candy canes.
