A pedestrian was struck by a car and fatally injured Tuesday night on Interstate 5 in Laguna Hills, authorities said.
The cause of the accident, which tied up northbound traffic on the freeway, was still under investigation Tuesday evening, California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Reeves said.
Investigators do not know why the person was on the busy stretch of freeway, which is closed to pedestrians, Reeves said. The driver of the car stayed at the scene and has not been charged, he said.
After the 8:55 p.m. accident, CHP officers closed five of the freeway’s six lanes and both onramps from Alicia Parkway.
