Los Angeles police detectives are looking for suspects in two unrelated fatal shootings that occurred within a mile of each other in North Hills and Panorama City on Friday night.
Just before 7 p.m., Dwayne Eugene Earles, 23, of North Hills parked in front of a condominium complex in the 14600 block of Nordhoff Street in Panorama City, planning to visit relatives in the building, Officer Nick Abbinanti said.
Some men were gathered in an alley behind the building, Abbinanti said, and one shot Earles several times in the upper body.
Police described the suspect as an African American, 5 feet, 10 inches, approximately 190 pounds and in his late 20s.
The motive is unknown, although police believe the attack to be gang-related.
About 12:30 a.m., officers found Angel Valadez, 26, of Panorama City dead of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body at Memory Park Avenue and Gresham Street in North Hills, Lt. Tim Moss said.
Police believe the victim was involved in a confrontation with at least one other man before the shooting. A suspect was seen fleeing on foot, Moss said.
The suspect was described as Latino, 5 feet, 4 inches, in his mid-20s, about 170 pounds, wearing black clothing and armed with a handgun.
No motive has been determined.
Devonshire detectives request that anyone with information about the shootings call the LAPD at (818) 756-8291 or (818) 756-8285 during nonbusiness hours.
