There’s No Need for a Bigger Jail

* Crime is down and Proposition 36 will divert the largest number of potential prisoners to other programs. So why do we need to expand the James A. Musick facility?
Let’s face it, the only ones who profit from imprisoning nonviolent lawbreakers are those who build or work in prisons. The rest of us pay the ever-increasing bills to feed, clothe, house and guard people who are no threat to society. The prison guard union and the builders of prisons wield considerable political power to keep the system growing in their favor. The rest of us better realize that we are the ones who pay the bills.
