Titans Hang Tough But Lose Gymnastics Meet to UCLA

Cal State Fullerton posted its best season-opening score ever in women’s gymnastics, but it wasn’t enough to defeat defending national champion UCLA, which swept all four events in a 196.825-192.900 victory Sunday.
Fullerton’s Kelly Mathiasen took third place in the all-around with a career-best 39.225 points.
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
Long Beach State 82, Cal State Fullerton 58--Allison Parks scored 15 points, Nikki Lee scored 12 and Tamara Quinn had 10 rebounds for the Titans (0-15, 0-3), who trailed, 48-17, at halftime.
Long Beach State’s Jackie Moore led all scorers with 24 points on eight-of-14 shooting, and had eight rebounds. The loss was the 28th consecutive for Fullerton, dating back to last January.
Pacific 61, UC Irvine 46--Maree Vincent scored 17 points for the visiting Anteaters (8-8, 0-2), who shot just 28% from the floor and committed 25 turnovers in the loss.
