Using a series of satellite images originally intended for the study of clouds by moonlight, scientists at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration compiled an image of our planet at night.

It’s cool, but it’s also a little unnerving--particularly north of the equator. What the picture reveals is a blanket of lights spread across the continents. The lights, of course, represent human habitation. Makes you wonder if Agent Smith from “The Matrix” was right about our species being a virus.
