Man Shoots Friend, Then Kills Himself

A 21-year-old Tujunga man shot and injured his friend while showing off a pistol Monday night, then apparently committed suicide moments later in a fit of grief, according to police.
Daniel Morton, 21, and three friends were in Morton’s apartment on the 8600 block of Hillrose Avenue on Monday. Morton, who had been drinking, appears to have accidentally shot Ryan Christine, 18, of Tujunga, about 7:30 p.m., said Det. Jim Freund of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.
Christine, who was hit in the arm and side, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he remained in serious condition, hospital officials said Tuesday.
Morton turned the gun on himself shortly after.
“We’re looking at it right now as a suicide,” Freund said. “When we kind of sorted through all the details, it turned out to be a tragic accident.”
