Passengers at John Wayne Airport who suffer sudden cardiac arrest will have a better chance of surviving, thanks to new medical equipment installed by airport officials.
Seven automatic external defibrillators were recently placed throughout the airport. Weighing less than 8 pounds each, the laptop-computer-size devices provide brief electrical shocks designed to restore a person’s heart to its normal beat.
According to the American Heart Assn., nearly 350,000 people nationwide die annually from sudden cardiac arrest.
