NBC’s Delayed Olympics

Re the West Coast NBC affiliates’ decision to tape-delay the 2002 Winter Olympics (editorial, June 29): The network’s broadcast will surely include hours of feel-good stories about amateur athletes motivated by personal accomplishment rather than money. However, the affiliates decided to preempt Salt Lake City’s live competition for the profits generated by tabloid local newscasts. Why watch NBC at all when I can get results instantly over the Internet and watch saccharine-free highlights on cable sports channels?
