4 Earthquakes Shake Desert in Inyo County

A cluster of small earthquakes shook the Inyo County desert Saturday morning, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
A pair of quakes 10 seconds apart occurred at 10:30 a.m. three miles east-southeast of Coso Junction, said seismologist Nick Scheckel of Caltech in Pasadena. The first registered a magnitude of 3.6, and its successor was a 3.8.
Caltech and the U.S. Geological Survey said they were followed two minutes later by a 3.9 quake four miles east-southeast of town. At 10:55 a.m., a fourth temblor, measuring 3.4, shook the same area.
Coso Junction, about 140 miles north of Los Angeles, has a geothermal plant and few residents.
