From Times Staff Reports
The driver of a sedan that ran off the road in March and killed a 77-year-old Valley Village man was sentenced to a year in jail.
Edward Brown of Panorama City pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter. He said he lost control of his car when his brakes failed. The sedan careened onto a Sherman Oaks sidewalk, hitting a telephone pole, a bus bench and two trees before striking Nasrollah Rezaie.
Authorities said Brown, 23, had known for about six months that his sedan’s brakes were faulty but continued to drive the car.
