AIDS’ Harsh Lessons

Re “Life Is Forever Altered as an Epidemic Turns 20,” June 3: Thank you for your moving article on a painful time our family will not soon forget. In 1981 a friend asked us, “Have you heard of Kaposi’s sarcoma?” That was the beginning of a time of terrible losses of family and friends. My dear brother died at age 52, among others in family and out. We learned what grief was, who our friends really were and that we were all stronger than we knew, but oh, at what a cost to an entire generation.
