Multicultural Churches

While reading “Friendships Form as Black and White Churches Integrate” (May 27), on the diverse congregation at the Church of Christ of Cypress, I immediately thought about the unique congregation at the church where I worship in Rancho Cucamonga. The United Methodist Church of Cucamonga easily qualifies as a multicultural congregation. My estimate is that the makeup is nearly half African American and half Caucasian, with a few worshipers representing other minority populations.
We even have an African American pastor, the Rev. Dr. John Kilgore, whose wife, the Rev. Dr. Barbara Kilgore, is Caucasian. The “greeting one another” portion of the service is the friendliest I’ve ever experienced!
