2 Young Bears Follow in Samson’s Footsteps

Two black bears will arrive at the Orange County Zoo on Monday, taking the place of the late Samson, who was euthanized May 14 after suffering kidney failure.
The zoo’s new bears--a 3-year-old male and an 18-month-old female--will be delivered from the Sacramento area by state Fish and Game employees, said Forest de Spain, zoo director.
Samson became a celebrity in 1994 after being videotaped lounging in a resident’s hot tub in Monrovia. He was a big draw for visitors to the zoo.
“The most asked question at the zoo since Samson died is when are we getting a new bear,” de Spain said.
The zoo is in Irvine Regional Park in Orange.
