A chronology of some well-known fatal shootings in this state and nationally:

1--Jan. 10, 2001, Oxnard. Distraught over family problems, Richard Lopez, a 17-year-old Hueneme High School student, takes 17-year-old Lorena Gonzalez hostage. Lopez is fatally shot by Oxnard SWAT team members.
2--Feb. 22, 1993, Reseda. 15-year-old Robert Heard kills one student in the hallway of Reseda High School.
3--Jan. 21, 1993, Los Angeles. A 15-year-old student at Fairfax High School, kills one student and injures another when the .357-caliber magnum he had brought to school in his backpack accidentally fires.
4--Jan. 29, 1979. 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer uses a .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle to gun down children and adults as they arrive at Cleveland Elementary School San Carlos. Spencer kills two adults and wounds eight children and a police officer. Spencer later says she committed the crime “because I don’t like Mondays.”

May 26, 2000, West Palm Beach, Fla.--Seventh-grader Nathaniel Brazill is accused of gunning down a teacher at Lake Worth Community Middle School.
Feb. 29, 2000, Mount Morris Township, Mich.--A 6-year-old boy at Buell Elementary School fatally wounds a classmate.
Dec. 6, 1999, Fort Gibson, Okla.--13-year-old Seth Trickey fires a 9-mm semiautomatic pistol into a crowd outside Fort Gibson Middle School, wounding five students.
May 20, 1999, Conyers, Ga.--15-year-old T.J. Solomon opens fire at Heritage High School, wounding six students.
April 20, 1999, Littleton, Colo.--Dylan Klebold, 17, and Eric Harris, 18, fire handguns and toss pipe bombs inside Columbine High School, killing 12 students and a teacher and wounding 23. They take their own lives.
May 21, 1998, Springfield, Ore.--Kip Kinkel, 15, opens fire in the Thurston High School cafeteria, killing two teenagers and injuring 20. His parents are found slain in their home.
May 19, 1998, Fayetteville, Tenn.--Jacob Davis, 18, opens fire in the parking lot at Lincoln County High School, killing a classmate.
April 24, 1998, Edinboro, Pa.--Andrew J. Wurst, 14, kills a science teacher in front of students at a graduation dance for Parker Middle School. Two students are wounded.
March 24, 1998, Jonesboro, Ark.--Andrew Golden, 11, and Mitchell Johnson, 13, open fire during a false fire alarm they activated to lure people outside at Westside Middle School. Four students and a teacher are shot to death and 10 others are wounded.
Dec. 1, 1997, West Paducah, Ky.--Michael Carneal, 14, kills three students and wounds five others at Heath High School. One girl is paralyzed.
Oct. 1, 1997, Pearl, Miss.--Luke Woodham, 16, shoots nine students, two fatally, at Pearl High School. He had killed his mother before going to school.
Nov. 15, 1995, Lynnville, Tenn.--Jamie Rouse kills a student and a teacher at Richland High School.
