SEASON AT A GLANCE: The 6-foot-6 Benesch is 2-2 with a 2.95 earned-run average. Last season, he had six of Saugus’ seven victories. Not considered an overpowering pitcher, he relies on his changeup and curveball while spotting his fastball.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Benesch threw a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking none, in a 6-0 Foothill League victory over Canyon. Saugus (6-3, 2-1 in league play) moved into second place behind Hart, an impressive achievement under first-year Coach Casey Burrill. “It was the best I’ve seen [Benesch] pitch,” Burrill said.
