Kim-Ahn Nguyen
Saddleback, Tennis
Nguyen, a senior, won her second Ojai championship in three years, winning the girls’ 18 division Saturday with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over
Anne Yelsey of Corona del
Mar. It was Nguyen’s
sixth consecutive
junior tournament title. Top-seeded Nguyen reached the finals of Ojai with a victory over Monica Wiesener of Calabasas, The Times’ 2000 Valley/Ventura County girls’ player of the year. Nguyen defeated Wiesener, 6-3, 6-2.

San Clemente, Swimming
Recorded the fastest times in the county in the 200 individual medley (2:03.53) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.34).
* Melisa Kiang
Cypress, Badminton
Won in mixed doubles and swept in girls’ doubles against Kennedy to help Cypress clinch Empire League title.
Patrick Buchanan
Servite, Tennis
Buchanan, a junior, outlasted University junior Aaron Yovan Saturday in the Ojai boys’ interscholastic singles final, 6-3,
1-6, 7-5, at Libbey
Park. In the third set, Buchanan
trailed, 4-3, but rallied for the victory. He
became the first Orange County player to win the championship since 1998, when it was won by Servite’s Ryan Moore. Buchanan defeated Sergiu Modoc of El Dorado, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals.

Mission Viejo, Swimming
In his first high school meet, the junior swam the fastest time in the county (59.70 seconds) in the 100 breaststroke.
* Steffin Rangel
Marina, Volleyball
Had 70 kills in two games to lead Marina to second place in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
