A woman who died after losing control of her car on the Ventura Freeway was identified Tuesday as 20-year-old Amanda Heather Woods of Santa Maria.
Woods was heading north on the freeway near Seaward Avenue in Ventura about 2:30 a.m. Monday when her car drifted into the center divider, went out of control and spun across the roadway, California Highway Patrol spokesman Dave Webb said.
Webb said the car was briefly airborne when it struck a grass embankment, then landed on its roof along the edge of the road.
Woods was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where she died about 3:30 p.m. Monday of head injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Webb said Woods was traveling about 65 mph when the accident occurred.
