SAN DIEGO — A 16-year-old girl was arrested after inspectors found 35 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in her car at the border in Calexico, U.S. Customs officials said Friday.
Customs inspectors searched the car because the girl appeared nervous when she drove up to the port of entry at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.
Using a hand-held device that emits rays to scan vehicle cavities, inspectors found 30 packets in the car’s quarter panels. Officials said the drugs would fetch more than $321,000 on the street.
The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, was identified as a U.S. citizen living on the Mexican side in Mexicali. She was being held in an Imperial County juvenile detention center.
