Robbie Ftorek, fired as coach of the New Jersey Devils late last season, was hired by the Boston Bruins on Wednesday to replace Mike Keenan.
Ftorek, a former coach of the Kings, signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year.
“I’m excited. I’m a little nervous, but to be able to come back to Boston--where so many memories have started for me--with the Bruins’ organization is tremendous,” Ftorek said at a news conference in Boston.
Ftorek, 49, coached the Devils in the 1999-2000 season, but was fired with eight games left in the season. The Devils went on to win the Stanley Cup.
