High School Mourners and the Administration

Re “Classmates Mourn Loss of Star Athlete,” April 24:
I was touched by the efforts of the friends and classmates of Jordan Connolly in their construction of a small tribute to him in the campus quad of Huntington Beach High School. It is important that these kids have an outlet for their grief at the loss of their friend in such a tragic car accident.
What is even more tragic, however, is the complete lack of sensitivity shown to these students by the administration of the high school by their destruction of this remembrance and threats by school security to the students gathered there that they would be arrested if they did not disperse. It seems that officials lack that which is causing Jordan’s peers so much pain--a heart.
