A British journalist detained by the Taliban after sneaking into Afghanistan was freed and handed over at the border with Pakistan, border authorities said.
Yvonne Ridley, 43, a reporter for the Sunday Express of London, thanked the British and Pakistani governments and her employer. In a statement the paper released, she said she was “delighted to be free.”
Ridley was arrested Sept. 28 after two days inside the country. Two male Afghan guides were detained with her; there was no indication of their fate.
