I just returned from a week’s sail on the Turkish coast. As a woman traveling alone, I was treated with courtesy and respect. Touring Istanbul and other cities, I met Turkish people everywhere who told me how sad they are for our profound losses of Sept. 11. I saw no other American tourists, but there were many British and Germans taking advantage of the spectacular scenery, the remarkable historical sights, breathtaking ruins, picturesque villages and low prices.
To avoid this friendly country is to miss a unique experience.
