Tabloid Asks Judge to Dismiss Condit Lawsuit

The National Enquirer has asked a federal judge to throw out a $10-million lawsuit filed by the wife of U.S. Rep. Gary Condit (D-Ceres).
Lawyers for the tabloid said Carolyn Condit never demanded a correction and has not sustained damages because of the articles.
Carolyn Condit filed suit in February, accusing the tabloid of libel for a headline that stated she attacked Chandra Levy. The Enquirer ran the story Aug. 7 with the headline: “Cops: Condit’s Wife Attacked Chandra.” Condit’s wife maintains she never met Levy or spoke with her by telephone.
