Mammoth Mishap

Re “A Mountainous Misstep,” editorial, April 5: It would seem a horrendous environmental mishap if the small airport outside Mammoth Lakes were to be enlarged to accept passenger jets. What is so wrong with having a large airport at Bishop, which is approximately 40 miles away, and shuttling visitors to the Mammoth village? It is an effortless drive to the mountain.
I have visited many ski resorts in Europe where a plane and/or train and shuttle ride was necessary to get to distant slopes. The journey required never deterred us from visiting any particular slopes.
