Oxnard police arrested three people on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday morning after a wild car pursuit through residential streets that ended with the suspects trying to flee on foot, authorities said.
The suspects were identified as Jolene Annette Lopez, 23, Jason James Reyes, 24, and Raymond Jacob Martinez, 21. Police said Lopez was the driver.
They were taken into custody less than 30 minutes after the pursuit, which began at about 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Doris Avenue and M Street, said Sgt. Doug Wiley.
Wiley said an Oxnard officer was writing a traffic ticket when a man drove by and said someone had shot at him. The man, who was not injured, was able to point out the suspects’ car as it drove away, Wiley said.
Officer Enrique Alvarez, who was writing the citation, attempted to pull the car over but it sped away. Wiley said the suspects threw a shotgun and handgun out a window during the chase.
The car crashed into a tree at Oxnard State Beach Park. The suspects tried to escape on foot before surrendering, Wiley said.
