Traffic Backup Blamed on Accident, Fire, Fair

A rollover collision and a fire caused onlooker traffic backups for at least five miles along the Ventura Freeway for most of Thursday afternoon.
A three-vehicle collision at the Santa Clara River Bridge between Oxnard and Ventura helped stall southbound traffic on the freeway starting about 1 p.m. but caused no serious injuries, California Highway Patrol officials said.
A two-acre fire near the Ventura River Bridge was reported about 1:30 p.m. and kept city of Ventura firefighters busy the rest of the afternoon. No injuries or damage was reported, and the fire was under control by 5 p.m.
The Ventura County Fair, on the second day of a 12-day run, may have also added vehicles to the freeway’s afternoon traffic, authorities said.
