Sudan Government, Rebels Begin Talks

Sudanese rebels and government officials met in Machakos, Kenya, for peace talks they hope will end a 19-year war in Sudan that has killed 2 million people.
The government wants a cease-fire to precede a comprehensive deal, but the rebels of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army say they will not lay down their arms until everything else is resolved. The rebels want southern Sudan to have more autonomy and exemption from Islamic Sharia law.
