In addition to running the Santa Monica Playhouse, Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie have also been a second set of parents to our son, who began taking summer classes at the playhouse as a timid 9-year-old (“Search and Rescue Roles,” by Don Shirley, Aug. 11). Summer workshops soon included spring and fall classes, more rigorous programs, and travel to England to act and study.
Our son now acts professionally at the playhouse in family theater and adult productions, teaches classes, composes music, does costuming, makeup, lighting and tech, and is a seasoned professional at 18.
He is passionate about his work there, and we are equally passionate about the future of this vital institution in Santa Monica.
