Rethink Term Limits
Re “A Deficit of Experience,” editorial, Dec. 2: The Legislature has had its first meeting and has sworn in 39 new members. Of the 40 state senators and 80 Assembly members, the 39 amount to about one-third of the Legislature. In view of the many serious problems facing the state, it should be a matter of some concern that so many of our legislators are rookies. Term limits may sound like a good idea, but perhaps it’s time to rethink that measure. After all, if a legislator isn’t doing a good job, we should be able to vote him or her out of office instead of forcing capable people out because of a term limit.
