Upset that cable music channel VH1 canceled their planned reality series before it even aired, singer Liza Minnelli and her husband, David Gest, filed suit in New York against VH1 and MTV Networks, units of Viacom Inc., as well as Viacom itself.
The high-profile couple said that VH1 breached their contract to do “Liza & David” and that an anonymous Viacom employee defamed Gest in a newspaper interview, calling him a “control freak.” Spokesmen for VH1, MTV Networks and Viacom were unavailable for comment.
The suit asks for $1.15 million in damages related to the unfinished production of the show, and damages of up to $12 million for the alleged defamation of Gest.
