County Puts Deputies on Beach Bicycle Patrol

Bicycling deputies will soon be patrolling several San Luis Obispo County beach communities, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Department is deploying a four-person team of deputies on mountain bikes to patrol areas from Avila Beach to Nipomo Mesa. The team, still awaiting delivery of the special mountain bikes, will operate out of the Oceano substation.
“Bikes are quick and quiet. Deputies on bicycles have better contact with the public. They can even come across a crime in progress,” said Lt. Ben Hall, commander of the South County Sheriff’s Patrol Station.
