Ex-Rooftop Santa May Be Headed Out of County
- Share via
Santa, the rooftop icon, may be taking a long sleigh ride. Many offers to house the 22-foot-tall chicken wire-and-plaster St. Nick that saluted U.S. 101 travelers for half a century have come from outside Santa Barbara County.
It was removed in March by owners who want to renovate Santa Claus Lane buildings. If a new home isn’t found by January, the five-ton Santa will be given the heave-ho.
It’s attracting interest from a dog kennel in Newhall, a former pig ranch called the Pork Palace near Buellton and a Lake Arrowhead mountain church called St. Nicholas’ Upper Room. Local homeowners want to put Santa in their yards.
