Corona del Mar Baroque Festival to Open June 23

The Baroque Music Festival Corona del Mar will open its 23rd season June 23 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church and the Sherman Library and Gardens.
The festival will begin at 4 p.m. at the church, 3233 Pacific View Drive, with director Burton Karson conducting a program of concertos by Bach, Marcello, Tartini and Vivaldi.
Playing period instruments will be violinists Elizabeth Blumenstock, Rob Diggins and Jolianne von Einum, cellist Elisabeth LeGuin and oboist Marianne Pfau. SeEun Lim will be the organist.
The festival continues June 24 with an 8 p.m. organ recital by Lim at the church, with works by Bach and Reger and the first performance, with oboist Pfau, of “Partita on Cranham for Organ and Oboe “ by James Hopkins, a contemporary work commissioned by the festival.
Two 8 p.m. chamber music programs at the Sherman Library, 2647 E. Coast Highway, will follow. On June 26, soprano Claire Fedoruk and baritone Aram Barsamian will sing Albinoni’s “Pimpinone” (in English) and selected arias. A string quartet and harpsichordist will also perform. Karson will conduct. On June 28, violinist Clayton Haslop, flutist David Shostac, cellist Timothy Landauer and harpsichordist Gabriel Arregui will play various solo and trio sonatas.
The festival will conclude June 30 with choral works by Bach and Vivaldi at 4 p.m. at the church. Soloists will be soprano Claire Fedoruk, countertenor Joseph Mathieu, tenor Jonathan Mack and baritone Christopher Lindbloom. Karson will conduct the festival orchestra and chorus.
Subscription prices for four concerts (excluding the June 24 program) are $85. The June 24 program is $10. Single tickets to other programs are $25 for those at the church, $30 for those at the gardens. Information: (949)760-7887.
