Election Protest Fizzles; Revenge Attacks on Rise

A national strike called to protest Zimbabwe’s disputed election appeared to fizzle out, a failure that labor leaders blamed on government repression.
Some factories remained closed, but most banks and shops reopened and government offices, post offices and schools never closed.
One farmer and a farm worker have been killed in separate assaults as suspected revenge attacks against opposition supporters have surged, according to the Commercial Farmers’ Union, which mostly represents white farmers.
