President Accepts Truce Signed by Rebels

Rebels signed a truce to halt a monthlong rebellion in Ivory Coast that has killed hundreds of people, and President Laurent Gbagbo agreed to the accord in a midnight television address.
Mediators said the insurgents would talk with the government in a bid to return stability to the West African nation.
Tuo Fozie, a rebel official, signed the cease-fire with West African mediators in the central city of Bouake, which the rebels have held since the uprising began Sept. 19.
“I accept the framework of this accord as a basis for negotiation,” Gbagbo said.
